RUFC - Praise For Newell And Forde From Warney

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne says he's not surprised by Joe Newell's performance on Tuesday night.

The twenty-four year old came off the bench at Wimbledon on Tuesday for the last thirty minutes and scored a fantastic goal which, at the time, was an equaliser for the Millers.

Speaking to iFOLLOW Warney said, 'He had a really good impact on the game and I left the ground thinking he was the best player on the pitch.

'He was a threat and I was really pleased with the goal he got. He doesn't seem to do a lot wrong on the ball and he was definitely one of the positives to come out of that game.

'I also thought Anthony Forde was excellent as well. His work ethic is second to none and his quality on the ball is good and he's performed really well recently.

'Consistency is key and we've got to try and get consistent performances if we are going to be at the top end of the table if we are going to be there at the end of the year.

'At the moment we are fourth and have played really well in most games. The lads are desperate to win football matches and we need to build on that to a level which are going to get us points.'

Also on the bench on Tuesday night was young midfielder Ben Wiles, who was probably there more because of injuries to others with Warney saying, 'If the game had gone the way I wanted it to then I'd have put him on the pitch, but the way it went it wasn't suitable.

'I just wouldn't put someone on the bench just for the laugh, the lad now knows we think a lot about him. Technically he's always been very good and always been athletic and he's working very hard at getting himself stronger. He doesn't get phased in training and the lads treat him like one of their own which is a bit compliment because they know a good footballer.'

I know Warney says 'no' but do you think we need a defensive coach?
