RUFC - Warney Happy With Away Point

RUFC - Warney Happy With Away Point

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne told iFOLLOW that it had been a joyful and stressful day on the touchline at the Kassam Stadium yesterday.

Speaking after the three-all draw with Oxford Warney said, 'We came here to try and play football, as did Oxford, and I don't think the conditions helped either side.

'After the disappointment of Tuesday night not to lose back-to-back games is crucial for us so I'm pleased the fight the lads gave in the second half.

'They (Oxford) caused us problems which we knew they would but apart from a crazy fifteen minutes in the first half when everything that could go wrong did go wrong I thought the lads battled really well and we deserved the point.

'My disappointment was that when we conceded the third goal the lads didn't look like they were going to get back in it and their heads dropped so I addressed that at half-time.

'There were loads of turning points in the game. I don't know if the penalty hit his (Will Vaulks) arm or not and our disallowed goal was disappointing. We've watched that back and I don't see one Oxford player appeal, you know, there has to be some contact it's not basketball. And Kieffer (Moore) hits the crossbar.

'When we were in possession I thought we were very good today. Out of possession not so good. At three-all I thought we put some really good balls in but lacked a little bit of legs in the middle so I moved Willo (Ryan Williams) inside to get Tayls (Jon Taylor) on.

'We brought a good crowd again today and we are pleased with the away support. I think the fans appreciate what the players go through and vice versa.

'It's been a tough week and obviously I'd like more than one point from two games but I'm really proud of the effort the lads put in. It was an entertaining game and I think if you'd been a neutral you'd have enjoyed it.'
