Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne says, not for the first time, that striker David Ball has been 'unlucky'.

Joining from Fleetwood in the summer, the twenty-seven year old hugely impressed in pre-season but has only made fourteen appearances since the start of the season, over half of those coming off the subs bench.

''I've had loads of open conversations with Bally, Warney told Radio Sheffield. 'and he's been really unlucky.

'He had a really good pre-season then after the first game we changed our system and got some success.

'Then he got injured and the team went on a really good run so he's now got to fight his way into the team. And I keep saying to him that it's not my job to put him in the team it's his job to get into the team.

'He's been training really well and I didn't think the Shrewsbury game was one he could play a part. But he could have an influence on the game on Saturday.'

I have to say that I didn't see any of the pre-season games so can't comment on how well David Ball came across except to say that everyone I spoke to about him said he was 'good'. If I'm honest what I've seen of him I haven't been over-impressed but that's not to say he won't do well for the Millers.

I'm surprised that Warney said he didn't think he'd have played a part in the game last weekend because I think we were crying out for a striker who can play the ball on the floor.

All these teams we are playing have now sussed us out and it's not difficult to see that every ball is going in the air for Kieffer Moore.

Personally, tomorrow, I'd play two up front and, with it looking like the weather is going to be windy, get the ball on the grass, feet-to-feet and not in the air every time which, for me, would mean starting with Ball.
