RUFC - Warne 'Any Of The Subs Could Be In My First Team'

RUFC - Warne 'Any Of The Subs Could Be In My First Team'

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne told iFOLLOW that he's pleased to have a strong attacking bench.

The bench on Saturday at Scunthorpe consisted of one goalkeeper (Lewis Price), one defender (Michael Ihiekwe), three forward thinking midfielders (Matty Palmer, Jon Taylor and Ryan Williams) and two strikers (Jerry Yates and Caolan Lavery).

'It's harsh for my defenders who aren't getting on the bench,' Warney said ahead of tomorrow clash with Oxford, 'but, unless there's an injury, it's not very often you have to think about sticking a full-back on.

'If the worse comes to the worst then I can always push another player into a full-back row but football is all about scoring goals so if we're lacking goals or want to score more then I've got two amazing wingers on the bench, two excellent centre-forwards who are desperate to play, Iky (Ihiekwe) who had a great start to the season and, at the moment, I've got Matty Palmer there.

'Any one of them could be in my first team.'

South Yorkshire Bragging Rights Go To The Millers

Rotherham United's fighting spirit did them well this afternoon after they came from one down in the first half to win the South Yorkshire derby with Doncaster Rovers two-one - but boy, did they leave it late!

Joe Mattock was back in the starting line-up for the Millers with Michael Ihiekwe, who had replaced him last week, nowhere to be seen. Rovers also made one change with Ben Whiteman replacing the injured Luke McCullough.

It was a scrappy start to the game and although Rovers
