RUFC - Warne Says Millers Look Quite Strong Up Front

RUFC - Warne Says Millers Look Quite Strong Up Front

Rotherham United striker Michael Smith got a nose injury a couple of weeks ago and had a mask fitted in time for Saturday's game with Scunthorpe which he wore in the pre-match warm-up but discarded for the actual game.

Asked why that was, Millers Manager Paul Warne told iFOLLOW. 'He wore it on Friday in training and struggled to see the ball around his feet and after the warm-up on Saturday decided not to use it.

'I think it was a good psychological boost for him not wearing it.

'I thought he was a thorn in their side on Saturday and was unplayable. His energy and desire to win the ball back and his chasing back to help the team was impressive. We are really pleased with what he's contributing but I still think there's improvement in him, little tweaks but he enjoys playing and he will get chances to score.

'And playing up front with Bally (David Ball) is a massive help to him because Bally's ability is second to none and he works tirelessly for the whole game.

'At the moment these two are pretty formidable. I always think you are as good as your front two and if your front two can work like that and I've also got Lavs (Caolan Lavery) and Jerry (Yates) who can also do that when their time comes then we look quite strong.

'I thought Richie Towell was outstanding too. He's a born leader, an organiser and he hates losing. He performed well, but so did they all.'

South Yorkshire Bragging Rights Go To The Millers

Rotherham United's fighting spirit did them well this afternoon after they came from one down in the first half to win the South Yorkshire derby with Doncaster Rovers two-one - but boy, did they leave it late!

Joe Mattock was back in the starting line-up for the Millers with Michael Ihiekwe, who had replaced him last week, nowhere to be seen. Rovers also made one change with Ben Whiteman replacing the injured Luke McCullough.

It was a scrappy start to the game and although Rovers
