'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Planning for the Future

Rotherham United manager, Alan Knill, told the Rotherham Star that there should always be forward planning.

He was asked at what point do you start planning for the drop and he said 'you should always plan ahead. I think you should always be prepared for what`s coming and I have to say we have waited and waited and something has happened, we reacted and we don`t want to be in that situation again.`

He then qualified that he was talking about the sale of Lee Williamson and Will Hoskins.

'We kind of knew they were going,` He said, 'but the ideal time to strengthen would have been before they left. But, we couldn`t do that because of the budget. I think I put my reputation on the line when I sold Hoskins and Williamson. I should have said 'no`. It was hard enough coming back from the minus ten points without letting the quality go - after all, they were the talismen really weren`t they?

'You have to have one eye on the future and know where your football club is going. There is no doubt that it will take this football club a long time to get back to where we want it. A lot has happened in the last two years,` he carried on, 'I am the third manager in that time. As a board and a football club in general we need to sit down and decide where we are going.`

Think it's about time we stopped harping on about selling Will and Willo - we had started to go downhill before these two left
