'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fleming - Don't Write Us Off

Rotherham United defender, Craig Fleming, urged everyone not to give up on The Millers.

'Everyone has written us off,' he told The Advertiser, 'but if you can get a run together the teams above will start to get nervy.'

Thirty-five year old Fleming was brought in by Alan Knill from Norwich City when a new manager went to Carrow Road.

'I'd played regular football until the last few months and I'm not one for hanging around the sidelines. I kept myself fit and I want to play some meaningful football in the last years of my career. If I can help develop the young players here at Millmoor then all the better.'

He said of Alan Knill, 'he was a good man and no one likes to see a good man lose his job.

'I haven't noticed any change in the dressing room since he left. The players gave their all for the Knill but it didn't work out. We made too many silly mistakes.'

Fleming has to prove himself to caretaker boss, Mark Robins, and the win last Saturday with him being in the heart of the defence and wearing the captains armband was a good start.

'The Bradford result was a relief not only for the team but from a personal point as well. I thought we played well at Brighton and Scunthorpe without getting the points - then we had four iffy performances.

'How many times do you see a new manager come in and get a win in his first match? It's amazing how things happen in football.'

Despite the long odds Fleming believes there is a way out of the relegation noose,'We won't give up on staying up until it is mathematically impossible.'
