'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Paul Hurst - 'Boo Me'

Stalwart defender, Paul Hurst. has hit out at the 'boo boys' at Millmoor. He told The Advertiser that the young players in the team may be low on confidence and booing them was well out of order.

'People are entitled to their opinions,' said thirty-two year old Hurst, 'but some of the criticism is ridiculous at times. Don't start to get on the young players backs, that's just not fair. If you want to boo someone boo me, I can take it on the chin. The youngsters are only just starting out in the game and they are all good players and will hopefully have a good future at the club.'

Hurst was particulary annoyed at some comments he heard when teenager Marc Newsham was substituted on Saturday.

'I thought Newsham did well,' Hurst said, 'and for anyone to say otherwise is just stupid. I think Liam King and Sam Duncum played OK when they came on and Sam really lifted the crowd.

'Some people think we don't care,' he carried on, 'but I can assure everyone that the lads do care. You wouldn't want to be in a house with them after a game like Saturdays. Everyone here is working and trying.

'We have to play for pride now and give the fans something to cheer about.'

Hurst has over four hundred appearances with the Millers and is looking at his third relegation with them.

'We have to win nine out of ten games to stand a chance of staying up,' he said, 'but let's not kid ourselves, we are staring League Two in the face.'

I don't like booing - I know it makes you feel a bit better to vent your anger like this but it doesn't do the players any good and won't make them play any better. They will just be nervous the next time they play.
