'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Robins - Pride in the Shirt

Rotherham United's caretaker manager, Mark Robins, told The Star that he was proud of the team after Saturday's one nil win away at Brentford.

'I wanted eleven players who could come in and stake a claim for their shirt every week. I had every confidence in the youngsters I picked and they went out there and had pride in their shirts. That's what you want to see and it's what the fans want to see.'

A few eyebrows were raised when the team selection was made on Saturday. Robins had possibly one of the youngest sides the Millers had ever put out. Man of the Match on Vital, Jamie Yates is only seventeen. Stephen Brogan and Liam King are just eighteen and Mark Newsham, who came on as a substitute, is twenty next weekend. Nineteen year old Rossi Jarvis, on loan from Norwich, was also in the starting line-up.

'Yes there was a surprise or two in my starting eleven on Saturday,' Robins admits, 'but they gave their everything. As different from last week as chalk and cheese.'

Robins recalled goalkeeper Neil Cutler along with David Worrell and Ian Sharps and said, 'I know the youngsters will catch the attention, but I thought the senior players did well too.

'I was proud of the whole team.'
