Robins - 'No' to Benitez Idea

Liverpool's manager, Rafael Benitez says that the reserve system in England does not work and does not benefit the younger players. He has the idea that Premiership clubs' reserve sides should be allowed to play in the football league to aid the progress of the youth players.

Rotherham United's caretaker manager, Mark Robins, is against the idea. He told TEAMTalk, 'this is something that happens in Spain, and it would not be ideal for us. It would stop the 'big' teams loaning out players to the smaller clubs and it would affect us. You look to the Premiership teams to bolster your squad and so I don't think it would be of any benefit to the lower league clubs at all.'

how many of the loan players are really interested in the clubs they are loaned to and do a really good job at the clubs, only those loaned for a season or with a view to a permanent deal, one month deals etc and the players dont reallyh care from what i see. Benitez idea could work. I suspect you would get a bigger crowd to watch Chelsea reserves than you would v's Cheltenham.

similar article on the Hudds Town site but with a different perspective.

i say no because you could end up with two teams from the same club playing each other

I say no too - firstly because it's not the way we play football in England, already got enough 'foreigners' around without playing their rules too and secondly cos I write the match reports and it would take me an age to write all the Chelsea/Arsenal names down!

Stephen Quinn did an excellent job for us last season on loan from Sheff United. Another crazy idea to make the premiership even stronger. Give me Cheltenham anyday....at least they have their own identity. If you want to watch Premiership teams reserves look no further than the Carling Cup...another great competition being devalued by the premiership hierachy.
