April 2nd in Millers history

Rotherham have a slight advantage regarding results on April 2nd over the years.
8 wins and 7 defeats coming in 18 games.
Also the last 3 games on this date have ended in Millers victories.

Last time out was a 2-1 win against Stoke City at the Brittania Stadium.
Martin Butler gave the Millers a first half lead after 23 minutes, which we held until 7 minutes from time when Gifton Noel-Williams scored what looked like a goal to give the home side a point.
However the same player hit an own-goal in the last minute to send Millers fans home the happiest.
Referee Graham Salisbury also stamped his mark on the game by booking 10 players, including 3 Millers (Campbell-Ryce, Martin Butler and Paul McLaren) and showing red in the 90th minute to Stoke's Michael Duberry for a second bookable.

The previous win came in 1996, when goals from Paul Hurst and Trevor Berry gave The Millers 3 points at home to Notts County.

2 years previous to that came a 2-1 Millmoor win over Bradford City.
Graeme Tomlinson netted for Bradford City and Andy Williams for The Millers before half time.
Then Shaun Goater hit a second half winner for Rotherham which eased any worries about relegation and lifted us to 18th.

Another famous victory on this date happened in 1984, when The Millers beat Port Vale 3-2 at Vale Park.
Alan Birch netting a Millers hat-trick in only his 2nd game for the club.

The match to forget on this date was arguably the 3-0 home defeat suffered at the hands of rivals Sheffield Wednesday in 1983.
Gary Bannister 2 and David Mills scored for the Owls in front of 11,250 at Millmoor.
