April 4th in Millers history

April 4th in Millers history

April 4th has proved to be a poor day for Rotherham over the years, with only 5 wins and 7 draws coming from 20 games.
No matches on this day over the last 15 years means our last game was back in 1992 at Edgar Street, Hereford.
A Chris Fry goal for Hereford was enough to beat The Millers and bring to an end our run of 6 straight victories in our push for promotion from Division 4.

6 games on this day during the 80's however brought 3 victories and 1 draw.
The draw was in 1989 against Peterborough at Millmoor, and a second half goal from Bobby Williamson gave Division 4 leaders Rotherham a point following a Craig Goldsmith first half opener.

In 1988, a 3-1 defeat at Fulham left The Millers in relegation trouble in Division 3.
Clive Mendonca scored the consolation goal, as Gary Barnett 2 and Justin Skinner scored the winning goals for The Cottagers.

Our last victory on April 4th came 20 years back in 1987, as a solitary goal from Paul Haycock was enough to beat Blackpool.

Another win of note came in 1981 as Rodney Fern scored the only goal to beat Millwall at The Den and put Rotherham back on top of Division 3 at the expense of Charlton Athletic.

Only 1,848 at Hereford that day. Following away game on 18th was at Maidstone and only 1,744 there. Can anybody remember the very low roof at Maidstone ? Caz would've been ok, but i was under threat of low flying beams..(Ouch)
