A goalkeeper with well over 400 league appearances to his credit, Kelham started his career as an apprentice at Middlesbrough but it was his move to Rotherham that led to the majority of his games, just short of the 250 mark. He was an ever present in his first season when he made himself a favourite with the Millmoor crowd thanks to his tremendous shot saving ability. Then he was rarely out of action for the next few seasons with another ever present record in 1988/89 as the Millers won the Division Four championship.
He then went on to give excellent service to Carlisle United and Preston North End before moving north of the border with a stint at Dundee United. Kelham then returned to Deepdale and after hanging up his gloves, he turned his attentions to coaching. Gained international recognition at U21 and full level for the Republic of Ireland. Subsequently became assistant manager at Preston and had one brief spell in charge.
