April 18th in Millers history

April 18th has proved to be a fantastic day in Rotherham United's history, as not only have The Millers won 13 and drawn 5 of the 21 games played on this day, but 26 years ago today Rotherham were promoted to Division 2 after an absence of 13 years.
A first half goal from Rodney Fern at Carlisle's Brunton Park gave The Millers an unassailable lead over 4th placed Huddersfield Town, and notched up Rotherham's 6th consecutive league win.

Last time out was 9 years ago as local rivals Doncaster Rovers were eventually beaten 3-0 at Millmoor.
The game remained goalless until 14 minutes from time when Trevor Berry opened the scoring.
Jason White made it 2-0 on 84, and Berry got his second in the last minute to send the majority of the 4,328 fans home happy.
This was the 4th time the two rivals have met on this day, with Rotherham being triumphant on 3 occasions.
Rovers won the first meeting in 1930 by 2 goals to nil, but the score was reversed for the next 2 games in 1949 (Gladstone Guest + Jack Shaw)and 1987 (Paul Haycock + Andy Williams).

On this day in 1992 The Millers made their only ever visit to Watling Street, home of Maidstone United.
Only 1,744 were present to see a goalless draw which took Rotherham into the 4th Division automatic promotion places.
