It was the worst kept secret at Millmoor and so was no surprise when John Breckin arrived 'back home` as Mark Robins Assistant Manager this week.
Having been a Miller for fifty-years, as fan, player and coach he now takes on, perhaps, his biggest task as their number two, trying to get them into The Championship. Firstly, of course he has to help them get back to where they have just dropped down from, League One.
He has been at Tranmere as assistant to ex Miller Ronnie Moore and was offered another deal with them, but when 'his` team called, he turned his back on Prenton Park and his ten year partnership with Moore, to rekindle his relationship with Rotherham United.
Breckin told The Advertiser, 'Mark (Robins) knew my contract was up at Tranmere and asked me to come back. Mark told me what he wanted me to do here and that convinced me. I wouldn`t have come back if I didn`t think we could make things work.
'The prospect of working here excites me, after all, this is my spiritual football home. It`s a huge job, possibly the biggest I`ve ever had, but I`m not frightened of it - I know what I`m walking into. I have an abundance of experience at this level.`
Breckin is urging everyone connected with the club to be more positive and have more patience.
'Firstly, we have to get our house in order, then stabilise and turn the tide. We need everyone on the front foot and thinking positive, from the Chairman through to the supporters. There is no crystal ball, everyone wants success straight away, but only so many teams can be successful.
'I am a grafter and a fully qualified coach. I can assure everyone I will be working around the clock to get things right..
'Mark Robins is a bright young manager and I am looking forward to working with him and forging a strong partnership.`
