'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Pre season so far

How do we think the pre-season games have gone so far? Paul Rickett, Sports Editor to The Advertiser, has his say.

'There is no doubt in my mind that Graham Coughlan and Ian Sharps will have the talisman effect on the youngsters in the squad.

It's much too early to judge the new lads in the squad but Derek and Peter Holmes looked lively and Dale Tonge was solid at the back.

Up front there is going to be a lot of weight put on Marc Newsham's shoulders. It could be a good season for the young forward but it could be this season that Chris O'Grady makes his mark while Andy Todd is likely to be a productive supply route.

There's still plenty of work to be done but with the promise of the newcomers and the experience of such players as Coughlan, Sharps and Craig Fleming and adding the clutch of youngsters into the mix - it could be a season of success.'

Marc Newsham is going to be one of the main men this season - I hope we can hold onto him. To me he is a natural goal poacher. I also thought Holmes looked good down the wing and Sharps at the back. O'Grady played well against Burton
