RUFC - Budget relaxed a little

Rotherham United's financial director, Giles Brearley, has told The Advertiser that he reluctantly agreed to loosen the transfer budget slightly so manager Mark Robins could bring in the quality of player to get the club promotion.

'We have given Mark Robins a budget which is performance related,' Mr Brearley said. 'There are rewards for the players if they do well.

'Let's hope the decision will transfer itself into results.

'So much depends on what goes on down on the pitch - it determines where we can go.

'Supporters began to walk away when things started to to wrong last season. But we now have a promising young side and a good season will really help finances.

'Even an extra five hundred through the gates can soon add up.'

The wage bill at Millmoor was cut by around thirty percent by off-loading a lot of the high earning players after relegation last season.
