'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Mistakes have been made

Rotherham United's Chief Administrator, Paul Douglas admits that mistakes have been made.

Speaking to The Advertiser he carried on, 'But, don't forget, without this current board there would have been no Rotherham United.'

It's nearly eighteen months since the Chairman, Denis Coleman and his then business partner, Dino Maccio stepped in to save the club after Millers 05, the previous board, got into difficulties and announced that the club was all but dead in the water.

Coleman, Maccio and assorted friends came to the rescue in March 2006 snatching the club from the brink and becoming the new saviours to the Millers fans.

Now, some eighteen months after, some of the fans are becoming disgruntled with the way things are being run, rumours are spreading and critisisms are being hurled.

Mr Douglas says, 'People want to remember, but for the work of the new board, there would be no one watching football at Millmoor.

'None of us had any ambition or ever dreamed or running a football club. We started off, really, just trying to raise funds but it soon became evident that no amount of fund raising was going to get someone in to take hold of the reins and save the club.

'It was fate that put us here - if this had been any other business but a football club no one would have touched it and Rotherham United would have been dead and buried.

'We know what this club means to the people of Rotherham. This club is an important part of the town's heritage. We have kids ourselves and we would like then to be able to enjoy what goes on at Millmoor.

'Yes, we know the club has underachieved for four years and it's not been easy for the supporters. But we need them to understand that we all want the same thing. We all want the best for the club. And, we can't thank the people who come to Millmoor week in and week out enough.

'We are the custodians of the club and it is up to us to guide it through the difficult periods. It is this that drives us on.'
