RUFC - Head to Head v Accrington

RUFC - Head to Head v Accrington

This fixture was a regular occurance between 1924 and 1951 in the old 3rd Division North, but after our promotion to Division 2 in 1951 and Accrington's resignation from the Football League in 1962, this fixture was no more until this season in Accrington's 2nd season back in the League.
Only 1 meeting 2 years ago in the Football League Trophy at Millmoor has bridged that 56 year gap.

Our last meeting at Accrington's old Peel Park Ground saw us make it 5 wins on the trot there, as goals from the 2 Jack's, Grainger and Shaw gave us both points in front of 5,004 fans.

Our biggest win on the road to Accrington came in August 1949 when a brace each from Gladstone Guest and the free scoring Jack Shaw saw us come away with a 4-1 victory, watched by a crowd of 8,302.

Hopefully the run can continue, and despite a gap of 51 years, we make it 6 out of 6 at Accrington Stanley.

If your last meeting in 2005 was anything to go by it should be a goal fest!
