RUFC - FA Respond to Robins Balls!

Rotherham United hit the headlines after their two all draw with non-league Forest Green last weekend when manager, Mark Robins had a bit of a rant about the FA Cup balls. He likened them to rugby balls saying 'I know it's the same for both teams but they are egg shaped. They were egg shaped last year and there has been nothing done to improve them.'

Captain, Graham Coughlan got into the act this week too when he agreed with his manager and said, 'the balls don't roll right and getting your touch right is more difficult than with the ordinary balls.'

Speaking to The Advertiser an FA Spokesman said, 'The balls meet the FIFA approved mark of quality and are made by our official sponsors, Umbro. They satisfy official standards on weight, water absorption, bounce and sphericity which means they keep their shape. The balls have been used since 2006 and as far as I am aware, we have had no complaints from anywhere else.'

The Millers boss stuck by his comments and has had four of the balls delivered this week to take a closer look at them and still insists there is a weight problem with them.

The FA Spokesman said the balls are the same used by the England team - hmmm, that could explain a lot....
