RUFC - Head to Head v Shrewsbury

Here is a look at the history of the fixture over the years.

Shrewsbury Town will always be remembered in Rotherham United's history as our opponents on our first, and hopefully not last, trip to Wembley for the Auto Windscreens Shield Final in 1996.
They also provided the Semi-Final opposition in the 1961 League Cup when we won to became, along with Aston Villa, the first ever finalists of the competition.

However, our League record at Millmoor against the Shrews has been very patchy, with the Shropshire side equalling our tally of 8 wins, with 5 games being drawn.
The last outing in August 1999 was our first victory over Shrewsbury in 7 games at Millmoor.
The game set off to a blistering pace with Andy Turner opening the scoring after just 2 minutes, and Rob Scott doubling the lead a minute later.
21 minutes into the game and Darren Garner put Rotherham into a commanding 3-0 lead, before grabbing his brace of goals 12 minutes from half-time to give the Millers an un-assailable 4-0 lead at the interval.
The lack-lustre Town defence shut up shop after the break and no more goals were added, but the Rotherham fans amongst the crowd of 2,708 went home the happier as Rotherham climbed to 11th in Division 3.

On the other side of the coin was a 4-0 Millmoor defeat to Shrewsbury on the opening day of the 1994-1995 season.
Town ran into a 3-0 lead by half time and added another in the second to stun the 3,762 home crowd.
Goals coming from, Mark Taylor, former Villa player Dean Spink who netted twice, and well travelled Striker Wayne Clarke who also hit the net for Man City, Everton and Wolves to name just a few.
This equalled Rotherham's highest ever home opening day defeat set in 1956 with a 4-0 reverse to Sheff United.
