'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Stadium news soon

Rotherham United's Chief Operating Officer, Paul Douglas, says there is a meeting with the Rotherham Borough Council planned for later this month about the new Community Stadium.

Speaking to The Star, Mr Douglas said, 'Saturday's United Rotherham Day was billed as a great success by everybody and it wasn't just about football it was about the people of the town out in unity to show the desire for a Community Stadium.

'A lot of work has been done behind the scenes and hopefully some sort of announcement will be made after the meeting with the council. I'd like to think we are just waiting for a few pieces to fall into place and the view we have is if there are any obstacles, 'how do we overcome them'. Everyone is one hundered percent certain this is going to happen - without it happening it is difficult to see a long term future at Millmoor under the current circumstances.

'The football club had headed the plea and we are absolutely delighted with the response - nearly seven thousand people showed up, our biggest crowd for two seasons. We saw that the feeling for the club was there when we nearly went under a couple of seasons ago and the supporters and town pulled together. But you need to see that support in front of you and prove to each other within the town that we can turn out and that we do care.

'It was very emotional when you looked around the ground and saw so many people holding the United Rotherham cards up. There were little kids and grandads holding them up. There was a fantastic feeling around the place and a great atmosphere.'
