RUFC - Head-to-Head v Chester

Rotherham United were the last ever visitors to Chester's former ground, Sealand Road back on April 28th 1990, with the home team finishing their 84 year tenure at the ground with a 2-0 victory.
Gary Bennett and Graham Abel scoring first half goals which ended the Millers hopes of a 3rd Division play-off place that season, in front of 3,827 fans.

After a brief spell sharing with Macclesfield Town at their Moss Rose ground, the Blues moved to the Deva Stadium in 1992, and Rotherham have only lost 1 League game there in 5 trips since.

Last time out was 15 days into the new Millenium and the Millers came through 2-0 victors.
A 21st minute goal from Paul Warne was doubled 9 minutes after the break by Leo Fortune-West as Rotherham moved back to the top of Nationwide Division 3 after an home defeat by Halifax a week earlier had seen us drop to 3rd

Back on 21st February 1998, the Millers definately had a game to forget at Chester, as we lost 4-0 and dropped out of the play-off places following 4 second half goals from the home team.
Things were made worse for Rotherham as both Keeper Bobby Mimms and Winger Andy Roscoe were sent off during that mad second period.
Roscoe got his second yellow from Hull Referee John Robinson for failing to retreat 10 yards at a free-kick, and Mimms was shown a straight red for handling outside the area.
Defender Martin Clark took over in goal with the scoreline at 3-0 but despite making a couple of outstanding saves the damage had already been done.

Rotherham team was...
1. Mimms
2. Richardson
3. Clark
4. Poric

6. Monington
7. Berry
8. Garner

On an happier note, Chester's Deva Stadium was also the setting for Rotherham's first match in the run to Wembley 1996.
The game was played on September 26th 1995 and just 774 fans were present, with only 42 from Rotherham, to see Andy Roscoe's second half 30 yard free-kick win this Northern section first round tie.
8 of the starting 11 that night would kick off at Wembley just 7 months later.

53% of League games unbeaten at Chester seems pretty good to me. Only 1 goalless draw in 30 also, and as Caz says we dont play that kind of game. FAMOUS LAST WORDS...GULP
