Rotherham United got their highest crowd for a couple of season's at Millmoor on Saturday for the game called United Rotherham Day against Wycombe.
A plea from the Club for bums on seats and cheap prices for the match and the fans flocked in. All around us people were saying 'Look how good this looks', 'This is great', 'What an atomosphere'. It led to a lot of people saying 'Why can't we do this every game, put the prices down and the fans will come.'
Speaking to The Advertiser, Chairman, Denis Coleman, tells us why.
'We'd love to be able to do it every week but it's just not possible. Our match receipts for the Wycombe game were less than for the MK Dons game a couple of weeks previously when there was a crowd of over a thousand less.
'It's a Catch 22 situation. If we could guarantee getting that many in for every game then we could do it but it's too big a risk. We have to pick the pieces up if things go awry and people stop coming.
'We were delighted with the support last week but we need a good percentage of those people to come to the Hereford game, which is massive for us. Like us, the Council were pleased with last weekend but it's not them we really have anything to prove to, they're already behind us. It's everyone around the Borough we need to convince that there is a will and the support to see this plan through.
'This is not about Denis Coleman and the Board this is about what Rotherham United needs. Without a Community Stadium we can't take the club forward.'
This week the club have announced another ticket offer - if you have a season ticket and know up to two people who want to come to Millmoor for the game against Hereford on Saturday, 2nd February then you can get tickets for them priced at Adults - £15, Concessions - £5, Under 12's - £1.
