RUFC - Council want to stop rumours

Rotherham United are to have a new ground - how long have we been saying this? Well, it would seem things are moving in the right direction.

Today, on RotherFM, Council Leader, Roger Stone, has told the people of the town that a site has been earmarked.

'I want to kill all the rumours that the new stadium is going to be here there and everywhere and say that as far as the stadium is concerned, it's exploratory talks thats been developed with Stadium the Retail World people and when those talks have got to a level where the people doing the talks can bring something to the council, that's when we will discuss it because it's not been discussed and it's not a done deal. The area concerned is at Parkgate in the retail park area.

'There is a group of very interested sports people in Rotherham that would love a Community Stadium and would like to be included. I would also like it to include something for families and a couple of classrooms for children so we can get them interested in sport while they are young.

'But the people who are looking at putting a stadium in Parkgate will have to talk to us about it and have plans for parking and transport - there is a long way to go.

'I really just wanted people to know that the planned site is in Parkgate, in the retail park area and with Stadium. But we haven't seen any plans yet and no decision has been made about funding.

'So, it's basically, watch this space.'

Not sure the club will be pleased that it's come out like this - surely it should have been a joint statement?
