RUFC - Head-to-Head v Stockport

RUFC - Head-to-Head v Stockport

Stockport County make their first visit to Millmoor for just over 6 years on Tuesday night, and the Millers will be hoping for a repeat victory from that last dramatic game.
The match played on Saturday February 9th 2002 attracted 6,413 fans to what turned out to be a 5 goal thriller.
The Millers without a League win in our previous 7 games took a 33rd minute lead through Chris Sedgewick, against a Stockport side 20 points adrift at the foot of Division 1, and themselves without a win in 13.
The scoreline remained the same until 13 minutes from time when County's John Hardiker levelled matters.
Then Mark Robins, who was Millers leading scorer with 10 goals in the first 17 League games of the season netted his first in 13 games from the penalty spot to regain the lead for Rotherham after 83 minutes.
The score was levelled once again on 86 as Stockport's Damien Delaney, on loan from Leicester, made it 2-2.
However, that wasn't the end of the scoring as Robins grabbed his brace on 89 minutes, and with it took all 3 points for Rotherham to lift us to 19th position, 4 points clear of the relegation zone.
Things didn't go all Rotherham's way however, because after the winning goal substitute midfielder Stewart Talbot was given a straight red for dissent.

Another Stockport game made memorable was their visit on Tuesday April 23rd 1996.
This was our first home game after our Auto Windscreen Shield victory at Wembley just 9 days previous.
6,920 were present to see the team parade the trophy around Millmoor for the first time, and this was easily the highest League attendance that season.
It was even 53 fans more than turned out for our League Cup game against Premier side Middlesborough earlier that season.
Millers youngsters Scott Smith and Danny Hudson led the parade around a bhoyant Millmoor and there was no way Stockport were going to poop this party.
Rotherham, just playing out the season safe from relegation, beat Play-off chasing County with 2 second half goals from a Shaun Goater penalty and a second from Andy Hayward.
