A Stock Dove (pigeon) flew into our dining room window yesterday afternoon. It made a right bang.
I went outside to see if it was o.k. and as I approached it to pick it up, it just flew away.
It must have had a sore head ....

Ouch!

Near where we were staying last week there was a bird sanctuary. We also saw lots of grouse and partridge

I see plenty of grey partridge on Sunnyside Lane as I travel up there early in the morning, a few times every week. There are quite a few of them sometimes and as I approach them in the car they scatter in all directions into the fields.

I actually saw a Hobby (or Hobbit as my wife called it), at close quarters the other day in Braithwell when it just dropped from a tree onto some unsuspecting rodent which I couldn't identify, and it then just flew away at speed. It's quite a rare sighting so I was pleased to have witnessed it up close.

It's a small falcon Caz, roughly the same size as a Kestrel, but much faster in flight.

It has a "handlebar moustache" similar to the larger Peregrine Falcon.
