It's rather autumnal out there now so time to start this new chat line I think.

Off to Norwich in a while - hoping to fetch something, other than cold, back with me!

Had a lovely holiday in Malta 27 - 30 degrees everyday - thank goodness for air conditioning!
Unfortunately whilst I was away Minnie, my dog, cut her leg badly on some wire hiding in the grass, whilst walking on the lead.
Had to spend a night at the vets after op to repair the damage. Back to the vets tomorrow - hopefully to remove the stitches.

Hope all is OK with Minnie, Sixpence. Pleased you had a good holiday!

What else have you been up to with your week off, Digger?

Went supermarket shopping yesterday morning and then in the afternoon went to look for a free standing gas cooker with a high top grill - we saw two (old fashioned you see!) but wasn't impressed with either.

I've got the delights of a trip to Birmingham this afternoon.

Listened to live commentary on the Birmingham City V Millers game last night.

I wasn't expecting anything from the game but after we equalised I thought we were going to get something.
I should have known better though and it took Birmingham just three and a half minutes to regain the lead.
We're in dire straits now and Saturday's home game against Reading is a must win game, or I fear for our manager's job.

Nice drives out there Digger. I saw a sign to Stokesley last week when we were staying near North Allerton (Newby Wiske)

Well TK, you weren't disappointed then cos we got nothing! And our Manager didn't get as far as Saturday!

And to top it all it was a terrible journey home with all the highway agency deciding to close all the main roads off! At one time we were very close to Uttoxeter! Must have taken us a good thirty miles out of our way. The only good thing was that we knew the team coach wasn't that far behind so would have been having the same problems - me, I'd have made them walk!

Minnie says Thanks for the good wishes.
The vet says the stitches will need to stay in for a while longer. Back tomorrow for a clean dressing. There is a large area where there is no skin - greyhounds have such thin skin and no fat underneath - so it is going to take a long time to heal as there isnothing to pull together.
Fortunately she doesn't seem to be in pain now but sadly it seems to have made her nervous as she was when I got her.

Listening to live commentary on our game against Birmingham Caz and it sounded like we were giving as good as we got, and if it wasn't for our defensive frailties we could have got something from the game.
Anyway, it's all water under the bridge now, and Stubbsy has been shown the door.
I feel sorry for him and I think some of the players have let him down a bit, especially the defenders. ... onwards and upwards as the saying goes.

I went shopping last night to Rotherham Tesco and we did a weekly shop of over a hundred pounds worth of goods and were half way through getting our groceries into our bags at the checkout when the fire alarm went off. It was loud I can tell you. Anyway the fella on the till told us that "it wasn't an exercise, it's the real thing" and that we'd "got to get out as quickly as we could, and just leave all your shopping where it was"
So, along with all the other shoppers (not too many because it was 10.45p.m.) and all the staff and security, we all went down the stairs and into the car park assembly point which was at the furthest point away from the entrance/exit doors. We'd no sooner reached our destination when someone shouted "all clear, you can come back in now"
Well we all marched back in and finished putting our shopping through the checkout, and all had a good laugh about it (not)

Oh dear, TK - happened once to me at Morrisons and it was flippin' raining - stood there five minutes then the all clear was shouted and back we went in.

Worst one I've been in like that was at Meadowhall - it was like a buzzer going off and all the shutters of the big shops started to come down. All us shoppers were left in the middle of the 'roads' wondering what to do. Anyway we all started to make our way to the exits and someone shouted 'it's nothing, wait a few minutes' - well, as I was on my way out anyway I just carried on to the bus station. It was the time when there had been threats to shopping centers so it was a bit hairy for a few minutes.

Pleased Minnie's going on OK, Sixpence but a shame she's got nervous again.

My Dad would have been 96 today so I've been to the grave to take some flowers.

Stokesley's very similar to Northallerton really.
My partner worked in Northallerton until the back end of July.

Ended up in Accrington yesterday - some really impressive headstones in the Cemetery there.

Yes sixpence - it doesn't seem to take much to 'nerve up' a greyhound again.
Hopefully your continued love will soon have her over her ordeal.

What horrible people.

I have been to Stokesley some years ago when we stayed with friends who then lived in Great Ayton - took the children to the swimming baths.

The only thing I know about Accrington is the football ground - and it rains a lot!

Today is the 50th anniversary of the Aberfan disaster where thousands of tonnes of slurry covered an infants school in Wales after days of continuous rainfall, killing numerous children and teachers.

I remember it happening even though I was at school myself, and I remember my mum and dad being horrified as they watched the news and the updates on t.v. that day.
When you're young you don't realise how terrible some things are and you just get on with things, but when you grow older you realise just how big and how terrible a disaster it was.
And to add to the misery, it dawns on you that most of the victims were innocent little kids.

God bless them all, and all those mums and dads who lost their little angels all those years ago.

I remember coming home from junior school for lunch and couldn't understand why there was no food being cooked when I walked into the kitchen. I found my Mum crying in front of the Telly.

Awful.

Did anyone else notice something strange about the Championship results yesterday?

Well, there wasn't a single game where both teams scored, and from the ten games played, eight of them ended 1-0, very unusual indeed.

Oh oh, I've just realised that the Forest V Cardiff game kicked off at 5.30 and it ended 2-1 to Warnock's Cardiff so they ruined the sequence.

Sorry I've been awol again:

Had family staying Friday til Sunday eve.
Spent a lovely sunny day in Blackpool and then a drive through the fabulous illuminations yesterday.
Today I've been to Milnrow visiting my elder granddaughter, (and her Mum and Dad!).

Tomorrow I am meeting a friend who was a work colleague and then in the evening I am going to Rotherham Civic Theatre!

You have had a busy time, sixpence!

We've been having things done at my Mum-in-Laws - easy access things put outside the front door (though actually I tried them and found them quite difficult!), things in the bathroom and bedroom and the Rothercare wrist band/telephone thing.

My daughter was here at the weekend although she was out with friends so didn't see a lot of her except Sunday for brunch before she went home to pack for Cypress where her partner is best-man at a wedding this week.

I went mad and cleaned all the inside of the windows on Tuesday - suffered for it yesterday! Nipped to town yesterday and went out for tea.

Been to the New York this morning to get away tickets and going to see a friend in Breathing Space this afternoon. Just usual shopping and visiting tomorrow then Ipswich on Saturday

Vets again today - poor Minnie! A few more stitches removed, cleaned and redressed. Back again on Monday.
Had a good catchup with my friend and then an evening at the cinema (not the Civic!) watching a very thought provoking screening of John Osborne's the Entertainer live from the Garrick Theatre, London.

Free day tomorrow!!
