It seems to be Sheffield and Lincolnshire it's hit - although, to be fair, if you went for a wee on Snake Pass it would be closed!

It is flippin' cold though!

There was still a little snow and ice on the ground when I left my son's - in Rochdale- just before 12 today!

My daughter lives in a village outside Stoke up the biggest hill I've ever seen and she had to go in late on Friday to work as there was no way she could get down in the car. Luckily when she got home it had all gone - that was more ice than snow though.

It was getting to the last fifteen minutes of the Lincoln v Ipswich game on TV last night when our power went off - again.

At first I thought it was just our house as the street lights were still on - but as I looked out one by one people's houses and street lights went off! It was quite strange! Especially as house numbers 2, 6, 8, 9 and 11 never went off!

We 'phoned this number we once found out about and a nice young lady in Gateshead answered (we're nearly on first name terms with her after the last couple of months!). Within 15 minutes a van with flashing lights appeared across the road and the man, with a light on his head, took up the grid and peered down, got back in his van and appeared to be on his 'phone for ages. Twenty minutes later he and his van went up the road and an hour after it went off the electric came back on - then went straight off again! Anyway it came back and, touch wood, seems fine!

The biggest thing was stopping the computer going into 'sleep mode' when it came back on and the clock upstairs is a pain to put right.

Just back from a few days in Iceland. What a lovely place. So much to see - may have to have another trip - when I've saved up again!!
Everthing was so very expensive - cod (absolutely delicious), crispy potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower (cooked in a light cripy batter) and a cup of tea approx £28, woolly hats £40-60, an apple almost £2!

Snow, volcanoes, waterfalls, glaciers, geysers, hot pools.....

Oh glad you had a good time!

Can't wait to go later in the year.

Yes, I expected it to be expensive. A couple of years ago we were in Norway and a Cornetto was £12! We didn't buy one!

I've always found Iceland to be fairly reasonable , price wise.

.....................And they sell Greggs pasties.

You ought to meet my next door neighbour, digger.
When I told him I was going for 4 days and would he keep an eye on things - his reply " didn't know the queues were that long!"

I'd love to go somewere like that - the country , not the shop.
Sounds VERY expensive though.

How's the dog by the way?

It certainly was - but worth every penny!

I am not a 'sit by the pool ' type!

We are going in July, Sixpence. It's a cruise so popping here and there - starting off in Newcastle then Dundee (!) and onto places I have no idea how to spell or pronounce!

Minnie is fine now, digger, thank you. She will always have scar with no hair covering - but I am just so pleased she is not in any pain and it has finally healed!

Pleased to hear about Minnie , sixpence.
Don't suppose it matters greatly about any scarring - dogs don't have vanity issues !!!!
Main thing is she's not in any pain/discomfort.

Totally agree about not 'sitting by the pool'.
We don't get away much , but when we do then we tend to go places that are 'interesting' , and find things out about the place.
Also , like to use things like public transport etc ....just to sort of 'mingle' with the locals , and get a taste of what living in a different place is like.

Might as well just go to Redcar if I wanna sit on the beach or in a bar for a few days !

Indeed, I choose holidays with the chance to do and see as many different things as I can while I've got chance!

Swimming pools aren't for me but I do like sitting on a beach watching the sea - can spend hours doing that inbetween dozing and reading!

But when we go on cruises we do get off at every stop and have a wander around, see the sights, hop on a bus if there's one around.

When we go away with friends in England we always go somewhere that includes a look around somewhere historical. Over the last couple of years we've just about exhausted Richard the III!

Had a busy weekend - Friday we went to Parkgate to Mothercare to get a mattress for the travel cot someone has kindly lent us - the lady said they had to order it and it would be at the shop in a couple of days - then she couldn't order it but ordered it to be delivered to our house within five working days - hoping it comes for next weekend when we need it!

Match on Saturday - at least I managed a sleep during the first half!

Home, showered and daughter, who had been at school rehearsals in Walsall until 3.30, and partner arrived, dashed about getting ready and then we went to Whiston Church Hall for brother-in-law's surprise 60th birthday party. It was dancing - real dancing, ballroom stuff! I drank wine!!!

Seen to Sunday lunch for five of us and had a natter before one lot went back to Stoke and other half took Mother-in-law home.

Busy next weekend too - got a few coming on Sunday for buffet lunch.

I had a busy weekend too. My elder granddaughter (and her Mum and Dad) arrived Friday evening and stayed until Tuesday. My son and gdaughter came to the game and I thought they were going to be a good luck charm and see us win! (tho' not what I was thinking at half -time!!).

Cheers Sixpence!

Well, they didn't see us lose so that must be a bonus!
