We still managed to play sport and enjoyed playing football in the snow.
Again in trouble with mum.

I remember my niece having a sledge one Christmas, of course it didn't snow, so we went to the muddy green across the road and pulled her about on it. Ruined my shoes and socks and got into bother with the people who lived around the green for making it into one big mud heap!

Happy days!

Not the same, was it?

Did then and still do, enjoy looking at pictures of small hamlets with snow both on the ground and falling through the dim lighting in the streets and fires flickering behind the drawn curtains in the cottage windows.

Yes, I love the pictures and photos - even don't mind looking out of the window at it as long as I don't have to actually go out in it these days.

Saw quite a bit of snow on the way to Blackpool yesterday and went through a ten minute blizzard but was nothing in the town itself.

A few flakes falling here now. Just heard from Bez and she's snowed in!

Had a busy few days - as well as Christmas shopping!!

Saw Queen with Adam Lambert at Sheffield Arena on Friday evening. Don't really know what to say - everything about the show - the music, the special effects - themed lighting, backdrops........was just sensational!

The best I have ever seen!

Then it was my elder granddaughters 7th birthday so over to Rochdale for the celebrations!

A bit worried about the weather but no real problems (apart from unable to clean the windscreen 'cos the holes were frozen up!). Arrived home safely about an hour ago.

Blackpool and Rochdale eh.
You are bringing back a lot of memories to me girls.
Remember very cold winds walking along the mile in Blackpool, had to nip into the pub just for the warmth you know, and trying to walk down Drake Street in Rochdale on a cold and icy day was very trying.
Flying Horse if I remember rightly, was the pub in the square by the town hall and courts.

I only go to Blackpool for the footy, Oz - but I don't think it's ever been anything but cold!

Glad you had a good time at the Queen concert and Birthday Party Sixpence, hope the Birthday Girl enjoyed it!

Bez managed to get out today and I met her (in her wellies) in Meadowhall. It was busy in the eating areas and certain shops. I went into Lush (I just find it by following the smell!) but the queue was out of the door so I turned round and went out!

Been to see my 93 year old aunt in Hemsworth (near Pontefract) today - good ego trip - she's always so pleased to see me! Less snow than in Bramley! Once off the skating rink roads on the estate where I live the roads were fine.
Not good underfoot walking Minnie at the moment - I'm always afraid of falling now.
She is so good though, she doesn't pull and just times her stride to my slower than usual pace.

Will ask my son about the pub! Guess it has probably been flattened by now, but you never know.

Yes, I've seen the dog walkers taking it carefully since yesterday.

Our path is usually like an ice rink (which is what I always warn people when they are thinking of having the concrete thing in that we have) but it actually was OK today.

It was good that the gritter came and gritted the bus route - been better if someone had actually told them that the bus route had now altered and going up the hill the new way which hadn't been gritted this morning was a bit dicey!

Could have been the White Horse Sixpence. My memory isn’t what it was.
Can you remember the old gas lighters getting round lighting the street lamps.. I can only remember them just on some streets in the town but the newer places had changed to electricity.
Some job they had didn’t they.? Getting around in the cold and icy winds with snow on the ground. Bloody heroes they were.

I remember the old gas lamps still being there, but not used, in the town - might be wrong but I think there might still be one standing in Rotherham

Agree with you Oz, not a job I'd have fancied.

I knew you were a teenager Sixpence

Did you ever make pictures and faces out of the frost on the windows? Of course you did!

Lol
Stuffing snow down the back of girls blouses was a winner for us boys although the girls must have hated us for it and it was big trouble for us if they reported it.

We once thought we were getting our own back on one lad and found the hat came to school in and filled it with snow. Of course, by the time the bell went for end of school it had melted all over the floor so he didn't put it on!

Making a snowman was always popular but it wasn’t one of our gangs things. Not mischievous enough.
