Rotherham vs. Derby

Don Valley Stadium

11 August 2009

7.45pm

Millers v Rams Preview

Rotherham United begin their League Cup campaign against Derby County at Don Valley on Tuesday night and who can forget our exploits in the Cup last season? Does it seem a year ago that we were able to laud it over neighbours Sheffield Wednesday after going (again) to Hillsborough and beating them on penalties? Then we went onto beat Wolves and Southampton before bowing out to a determined Stoke City side at the Britannia Stadium.

But this is a new season and Derby County are the visitors. Derby beat Peterborough on Saturday although, Manager, Nigel Clough, says they were lucky.

The Millers also won, they beat Accrington with a last minute goal at Don Valley, and, were also a tad lucky.

Vital Quotes:

Nigel Clough - You only get a couple of chances to get to Wembley and this is one of them. We won`t risk anyone but will be putting out our best possible side

Millers defender Mark Lynch - It will be a tough game. We want to recreate the great run we had last year. Teams from the Championship coming to Don Valley sometimes find it hard and we hope to pull off another upset on Tuesday.

Rotherham Team News:

The Millers new signing, Adam Le Fondre could play some part in the game and Dale Tonge will be back in contention after serving a one match ban on Saturday but the Millers will be without striker Drewe Broughton who has a broken toe.

Player to watch: Pablo Mills

should play well against his former team with Millers` fans hoping he doesn`t get the jitters around his own box again like he did on Saturday!

Derby Team News:

Paul Green will have a late fitness test and Kris Commons is away on International duty. Chris Porter and Giles Barnes have long term injuries and it is thought Rob Hulse is not yet match fit. Ex Miller Shaun Barker is rated as 50/50. Robbie Savage could well play after securing a new deal that keeps him at the club until 2011

Player to watch: Jake Buxton

Powerful centre-half who was very solid against Peterborough on Saturday.

Ref Watch:

David Webb from County Durham

Next Fixtures:

The Millers travel to Bournemouth for their first away game of the new season on Saturday, 15th August and it is a 3.00pm kick off
