Rotherham United vs. Gillingham

New York Stadium

8 December 2012

Millers v Gills Preview

Rotherham United welcome League Two Leaders Gillingham Town to the New York Stadium this afternoon in what Millers Manager, Steve Evans, says will be their toughest test so far.

The Millers have won their last two league games and drew at New York with Notts County in the FA Cup last weekend while the Gills come into this game on the back of two losses and a draw. The last time the Gills won an away game was the end of October at The Cherry Red Records Stadium when they beat Wimbledon one-nil. The Millers last win at home was against Cheltenham in mid-November.

Vital Quotes:

Steve Evans - Gillingham are deservedly leaders. I think they've only lost once on the road and they've got an excellent squad. They can mix it up, they can pass, the can move and they've got a lot of strength in the camp and will come here well organised, disciplined and strong. This is going to be our biggest test.

Martin Allen - This will be a great game to play. They've got a good manager, good players and a good stadium but we've got a very good away record. Steve Evans is always out watching games and I've had a few nice cups of tea with him and he's a nice guy. He's got his way of doing things in the technical area which might be a bit different to most people but he wants to win. To the supporters this might be a 'magical six pointer' but to us it's just another game.

Rotherham United Team News:

The Millers will welcome back midfielder Kari Arnason as he returns from injury. Also back is goalkeeper Scott Shearer although I think Steve Evans will find it difficult to 'drop' Andy Warrington. Dale Tonge, Lionel Ainsworth and David Noble are still on the injury list but Kieran Agard will be available after being an unused sub last weekend. The Millers will have on-loan Liam Ridehalgh available after Huddersfield refused permission for the defender to play in the Cup last week.

Player to watch: Alex Revell

Doing everything but score at the moment - and the Millers fans would love to see him get a couple against the league leaders today

Gillingham Team News:

Tom Flanagan is a long term injury for the Gills and David Wright has returned to Crystal Palace. Martin Allen has a couple of injury doubts but is keeping his cards close to his chest by not naming them. The Gills, who travelled up to South Yorkshire this morning, have two youngsters, Devante McKain and Nathan Nyafli travelling with them. Goalkeeper Stuart Nelson is available after a one-game ban

Player to watch: Deon Burton

Former Miller - and will probably do what all former Millers do when they play against us and score. Deon will probably be in for a few jeers from the Millers faithful after leaving to join rivals Sheffield Wednesday - he suddenly went down with flu when we were due to play against Doncaster Rovers at Millmoor but instead of going home to bed was allegedly seen in the crowd at Hillsborough

Ref Watch:

Andy Haines from Tyne and Wear

Next Fixtures:

The Millers make the short trip into Nottinghamshire on Tuesday where they take on Notts County in the FA Cup replay game. Kick-off is 7.45pm
