Millers v Seagulls Preview

Rotherham United
vs.
Brighton and Hove Albion

New York Stadium

7 March 2017

7.45pm

Rotherham United take on Brighton and Hove Albion at the New York Stadium this evening with the visitors being twenty-two places above the Millers.

Both teams go into this game on the back of defeats - Rotherham at home to Aston Villa and the Seagulls away at Nottingham Forest.

Brighton's last away win was on South Yorkshire soil at Oakwell when they beat Barnsley two-nil in mid-February while the Millers last home win was in January against Norwich City.

Vital Quotes:

Paul Warne - Every game is a tricky game but I think we've always competed well at home. I saw Brighton play at Forest and saw how well they play and will respect them. They are good on the counter-attack and we've got to be aware of that but I'm also setting up a team that can create and score goals. I am looking forward to the game.

Chris Hughton - By our standards we let in a couple of poor goals on Saturday to it's about a reaction. There won't be a team we play that will shock us in the way that they play but every game is a tough and competitive game. We will need to put in a higher level of performance tonight that we did on Saturday and then we'll give ourselves a chance of winning the game. Paul Warne has got a tough job but he has made his team very competitive and, apart from the recent Cardiff game, they've been very much in every game. He's doing the best he can.

Rotherham United Team News:

Lewis Price will keep his place in goal with Richard O'Donnell out for the foreseeable future with a finger injury. Stephen Kelly limped off on Saturday and is expected to be out for three weeks, Richard Wood is struggling and unlikely to be back for at least a couple of weeks. Joel Ekstrand and Darnell Fisher are also out. Dizziness and poor vision saw Danny Ward subbed at half-time on Saturday and he is rated less than fifty-fifty to play. Jon Taylor left the pitch early too with a back injury but it's thought he could make it and the elusive Carlton Morris is still with his parent club Norwich City. Dexter Blackstock missed the game on Saturday with an injury and it's more than likely that he won't be fit for tonight. All this and we haven't even mentioned the long-term injured! There is good news and that's Lee Frecklington played forty-five minutes on Saturday and will probably have to play the full ninety this evening. It will probably be a case of 'if you're fit you're playing' for Warney.

Player to watch: Will Vaulks

Having to become an emergency right-back he did very well on Saturday - and might have to play there tonight too.

Brighton and Hove Albion Team News:

Shane Duffy is out for six weeks with a metatarsal. Uwe Hunemeier will probably be his replacement. Also out are Gaetan Bong, Sebastien Pocognoli and Connor Goldson while loanee Chuba Akpom will be assessed nearer kick-off after missing Saturday's game with a knee problem. Goalkeeper Niki Maenpaa, who has been sidelined since January, is fit again.

Player to watch: Glenn Murray

Will want, and probably expect, to add to his seventeen goals already this season
