Millers v Southend Preview
New York Stadium
12 August 2017
Rotherham United welcome Southend United this afternoon for their second visit to the New York Stadium.
The Shrimpers come to Rotherham on the back of two home games - the first where they got a win against Blackburn Rovers and the second they lost to Newport County in the Cup.
The Millers will be hoping for their first league win of the season having lost away at Fleetwood last weekend although they did beat Lincoln at home in the Cup in the pouring rain on Tuesday evening.
Paul Warne - They (Southend) won't come here with any other intention than to win the game which, of course, is our intention too so I expect it to be a physical encounter and hopefully an exciting game to watch.
Phil Brown - The challenge is to be a better footballing team than the opposition in this new stadium and fantastic surface. The most important thing is to get the first goal and if their fans are up for it then they've got the first goal and it will be a tough game.
Rotherham United Team News:
Paul Warne has no obvious new injuries so will have a full squad to chose from. After getting a start on Tuesday night Darren Potter will be hoping for his first league game in a Rotherham shirt. The game will probably be a little early for Alex Bray and also for new boy Shaun Cummings who signed this week.
Player to watch: Jamie Proctor
Knows where the net is and after scoring on Tuesday night will want to start getting goals in the league
Southend United Team News:
After suffering a broken leg in pre-season the Shrimpers are going to be without defender Ben Coker for some months. Former Millers loanee Anthony Wordsworth will travel but is rated as doubtful with a hamstring problem while Michael Turner has an outside chance of playing.
Player to watch: Ryan Leonard
Midfielder who is a fans' favourite at Roots Hall who will want to add to the goal he scored on the opening day of the season
