Millers v Terriers Preview

Huddersfield Town
Rotherham United

John Smith's Stadium

23 August 2017

Rotherham United take on Huddersfield Town in the second round of the EFL (Carabao) Cup this evening at the John Smith's Stadium.

The Millers beat Lincoln City in the first round by two goals to one with Premier League side Huddersfield taking part in the competition for the first time this season.

Flying high in second place in the Premier League the Terriers go into this cup game on the back of two wins (away at Crystal Palace and at home to Newcastle) with the Millers sitting just below half-way of League One after a two-one loss away at Peterborough on Saturday.

Vital Quotes:

David Wagner - I like cup competitions, I like cup games and I love Wembley so, for me, this is a competition where we will try and be as successful as we can and we will be preparing seriously for this game. Rotherham have a lot of the same players they had last season so we will be aware of them and we have to make sure we find solutions against them.

Paul Warne - Although they've recruited well in the summer I expect Huddersfield to make numerous changes. I know how they play and how well they keep the ball so it's going to be a big ask for us. They will have a lot more of the ball than us but it's about how clever we are when we get it. I'm under no illusion how difficult the game will be.

Huddersfield Town Team News:

David Wagner could give first starts to Scott Malone, Danny Williams and Laurent Depoitre but will be without Jonathan Hogg, Nahki Wells, Martin Cranie and Jon Gorenc Stankovic who are all injured.

Player to watch: Tom Ince

Scored three goals against the Millers in two games last season while playing for Derby and I would think the odds of him scoring again, if he plays, are quite high

Rotherham United Team News:

The Millers will be without young striker Jerry Yates who has a foot injury. Paul Warne has said that looking towards the league game with Charlton on Saturday he will make changes for tonight's game.

Player to watch: Darren Potter

Strong midfielder who likes to get forward and help the strikers
