Millers v Pompey Preview
3 September 2017
Rotherham United make the long trek down to Hampshire to take on Portsmouth for this live for TV game today.
The Millers go into this game on the back of a home loss to Charlton Athletic with Portsmouth getting an away point with a one-all draw at Wigan.
Pompey's last home game ended in a draw against Walsall with the Millers last away league game ending in a two-one defeat at Peterborough.
This game sees the 'old' take on the 'new' in the dugouts with former Millers Manager Kenny Jackett now in charge of Pompey and Paul Warne, who worked under Jackett in the thirty-nine days he lasted at the New York Stadium, being Rotherham's Manager.
Kenny Jackett - Rotherham have come down from the Championship and have had quite a high turnover of players since the summer and there are some big threats in their side. Some of their results so far have been a bit unlucky
Paul Warne - They have signed a few good players and play really expansive. They got a good away point at Wigan last week and will be confident going into the game. Kenny and his staff know this league really well.
Portsmouth Team News:
Portsmouth will be without former Miller Gareth Evans who is suspended but Nathan Thompson could be set to make his debut after suffering a foot injury since joining in the summer. Centre-half Matt Clarke is also inline to take part in his first game of the season due to injury but it's thought that the game has come a bit early for Drew Talbot to be involved. Kenny Jackett could also give debuts to new players Oliver Hawkins, Stuart O'Keefe, Damian McCrory and Matty Kennedy, all who joined on Thursday.
Player to watch: Brett Pitman
Former prolific scorer with Bournemouth and being Pompey's top scorer since joining in the summer will want to add to his tally this afternoon
Rotherham United Team News:
Paul Warne will be without forward Jamie Proctor who has had an operation this week and will be out until at least April. Will Vaulks, Lee Frecklington and Joe Mattock are doubts but David Ball and Jerry Yates are back from injuries. Manny Onariase joined on Thursday but probably won't be involved but Richie Towell who was a late addition on transfer deadline day could be in the travelling squad. Richard O'Donnell will keep his place in goal with new signing Marek Rodak on duty with the Slovakia U21 squad.
Player to watch: Jonson Clarke-Harris
After being told there had been bids for him in the transfer window Jono ended up staying with the Millers and IF he gets a chance today will want to prove himself to the management, his team mates and fans
