Millers v Crewe Preview

Crewe Alexandra
Rotherham United

The Alexandra Stadium (Gresty Road)

4 November 2017

Rotherham United will be hoping to go on a good Cup run this season but will need to overcome Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road (The Alexandra Stadium) this afternoon.

Rotherham born and former Millers centre-back David Artell took over at the Alexandra Stadium in January after being their Academy Operations Manager.

The Alex are currently eighteenth in League Two and come into this game on the back of a three-one loss away at Colchester. League One Rotherham slipped out of the top six after a three-one home loss to Gillingham last weekend.

Crewe's last home game saw them lose to Accrington while the Millers last away game saw them get their first draw of the season away at Oxford.

Vital Quotes:

David Artell - It is a great opportunity to set a marker because Rotherham are a good side. They were in the Championship last season and have some really good players. They will play with high energy and we will have to work our socks off to match them.

Paul Warne - Dave Artell is doing a great job at Crewe. I would love to play for him as a player so I know his players will feel the same. They've got a lot of fire power and a lot of energy and I'm under no illusion how hard this game will be.

Crewe Alexandra Team News:

David Artell has no injury worries ahead of this afternoon's cup tie and is expected to field a strong side.

Player to watch: Jordan Bowery

Former Miller who has always been powerful and has recently found his scoring boots for Crewe

Rotherham United Team News:

Rotherham United will be without Joe Mattock after his red card last weekend against Gillingham and Ben Purrington is still out injured while this game has probably come a little early for skipper Lee Frecklington. Apart from that Paul Warne has as near a fully fit squad as he can going into this Cup game but he could have a few forced changes in the team depending on if the loan players' parent clubs will allow them to play.

Player to watch: Darren Potter

Will want to get more minutes under his belt after coming back from injury last weekend
