Rochdale 4 - Rotherham 1

Spotland

24 March 3pm

Attendance: 2,985

Sub Scuppers Millers

Chris Dagnall starred in his own Roy of the Rovers game today when he came off the bench to score a hat-trick for Rochdale at Spotland. Dagnall who hadn't played for six months following a cruciate ligament operation helped his team into a play-off place.

The Millers started positive and Danny Harrison had a shot saved by Tommy Lee before a seventh minute Peter Holmes corner found Marc Joseph, who headed the visitors into the lead. Chris O'Grady and Marc Joseph should have put Rotherham further in the lead but their finishing let them down. Dale got on level terms on the half hour mark when Gary Jones slammed the ball past Andy Warrington in the Millers goal. Ten minutes later Warrington managed to block a shot from Rene Howe while at the other end Peter Holmes and Derek Holmes had shots saved.

The second half started with the Millers on top but some bad passing let them down before Danny Harrison cleared off the line from a Ben Muirhead corner. On fifty-eight minutes Pablo Mills blocked a shot from Adam Rundle while at the other end a Chris O'Grady shot was easily saved by Lee. Then, in the sixty-eighth minute, Chris Dagnall came on for Adam Le Fondre and thirteen minutes later Lee Thorpe passed to Dagnall who put the ball in from six yards out. Minutes later he put the home team further in the lead when he fired past Warrington, although it seemed to take a little deflection from Ian Ross and his third came in injury time when he controlled a long pass from Tom Kennedy and curled the ball left footed into the net.

Another game of missed chances and bad passing from the Millers today which sees us drop into twelfth place in the league.
