Millers 2 - Iron 1

Don Valley Stadium

22 July 7.30pm

Attendance:

Millers Beat Iron

Rotherham United won their first game at Don Valley this evening, despite going one down to an eighth minute header.

With a contrast to the wind and cold of Saturday, the sun blazed down on the Millers and Iron fans as the game began. Scunthorpe took an early lead when Kenny Milne headed past Steven Cann into the top corner of the Millers goal from a Kevan Hurst corner. And the visitors looked comfortable for most of the first half and could have got another when Gary Hooper's dipping header went just wide. Marc Joseph nearly got an equaliser on the half hour mark but his shot bounced wide while at the end of the half, Peter Winn should have sent the Iron in two up but his effort rebounded off the bar.

At the start of the second half, Peter Winn crossed to Hooper who's looping header hit the cross bar and came out to safety. But, Mark Robins put Rueben Reid on and the home side started to dominate although it was Ian Morris who blazed over the Millers bar from just four yards out. This was a costly miss for Iron as Reid received the ball from a long kick from Cann on the seventy-second minute and curled a left footed shot into the top corner of the goal. After this the home side took charge and the three up front of Reid, Rhodes and Taylor were causing the Iron defence all sorts of problems and it was little surprise in the final minutes of the game that Jamie Green whipped in a ball for Ryan Taylor whose shot from six yards out blasted past Lillis in the visitors goal.

Star Player

Although new signing Reuben Reid changed the game when he came on, the tireless JAMIE GREEN caught my eye tonight
