Millers win friendly

Two goals in as many minutes for summer signing Alex Rhodes saw the Millers win against a lively Stocksbridge side yesterday evening.

In the balmy summers evening Steels certainly put up a fight against the league two team although Tom Cahill should have put the visitors ahead in the opening minutes but 'keeper, David Ratcliffe, managed to block the ball and keep it out. At the other end, Millers 'keeper, Mark Oxley, sent a pass to a defender only to see Jamie Vardy intercept it but his shot went across the face of goal and out for a goal kick. A few minutes later, Oxley was in the wars, as he dove at the feet of Richard Adams only to receive a blow to the head, though after treatment he carried on. After a challenge on the Millers' Steven Morrison by Neil Ashley saw the trialist substituted, the first half seem to peter out and most of the watching retired to the bar.

The second half wasn't very old when Millers manager, Mark Robins, had to act as peacemaker when Steels' Brett Lovell and the Millers' Grant Darley had an angry exchange but the first real action was in the seventy-fourth minute when Alex Rhodes got past the home sides defence and fired at goal. Altough Ratcliffe did get a hand to the ball he couldn't prevent the Millers going ahead. The second goal came a minute later when Rhodes beat two defenders and put the ball into the bottom left hand corner to make it two-nil and a win for the visitors.
