Rotherham United slipped down to tenth place in the league after their second consecutive defeat in a week at Don Valley this afternoon.

The Millers started well and in the opening three minutes Johnny Mullins had a header cleared off the line, a Tom Newey corner dipped under the bar but was turned behind for a corner and Ryan Taylor hit the post. On ten minutes Morecambe came into the game when Andy Warrington put a Phil Jevons shot out for a corner and seven minutes later, Warrington did well to save from Jimmy Spencer. The visitors best chance came when Spencer found Garry Hunter all alone and when it looked like he couldn`t miss he headed the ball into the ground and it bounced high over the bar. Marcus Marshall had a low cross cleared on forty minutes and a minute later he shot just over from twenty yards out. Then Nicky Law got a good ball to Marshall down the wing who in turn found Mark Bradley. Bradley seemed to hit the ball into the ground and it just eluded the incoming Adam Le Fondre. In the last minute of the half Law himself had a shot that went straight to Barry Roche in the Shrimps goal. Then Marshall went on a mazy run, beating three players and shooting well from eighteen yards but his shot went just wide.

The second half started slow and it was the visitors on fifty-two minutes who had the first chance and it came from a Millers corner. Morecambe surged forward and looked like they were going to go all the way until Johnny Mullins stuck a foot out to stop them. It wasn`t until the hour mark that Rotherham looked like scoring, when Omar Daley came on for Bradley, and he got hold of the ball down the right and crossed the ball to Le Fondre but his shot was well blocked by Chris McCready. On seventy-two minutes, Le Fondre had a shot that went just wide and three minutes later a long punt by the visitors found Kevan Hurst and his shot went just wide of the post. Then, when it looked like it was going to be a stalemate, Hurst was in the action again and his through ball found Spencer whose shot went past Warrington and into the left hand top corner of the net. And it was only luck that the score wasn`t doubled a minute later when Danny Carlton, on for Jevons, saw Warrington off his line and had a shot that went into the side netting. On the ninetieth minute Marshall might have equalised but saw his shot go just over and in time added on Mullins had a clear header that went inches wide of the left hand post.

The Millers started well today and ended well but the middle bit of the game they didn`t seem to be playing together at all and we couldn`t cope with Morecambe`s long ball play. Down to tenth tonight and the play-offs seem to be slipping a little bit out of our grasp.
