Chesterfield 1 - Rotherham 1

B2net

25th August 2012

Attendance: 7,232

Chesterfield V Rotherham

Steve Evans first local derby saw the Millers off to the worst start! With barely 2 minutes on the clock, Scott Shearer came out to collect a ball, slipped and watched Drew Talbot square for Jordan Bowery to tap in to an empty net. After that Shearer`s handling looked nervy but some of that could have been down to weather conditions. Rotherham looked to have had an immediate response when Lionel Ainsworth had what seemed a perfectly good goal chalked off for handball. Neither the Spireites nor the players appealed for the offence! Chesterfield then rattled Shearers goal on two occasions. Last year, I fear we may have had heads drop but not this team. Indeed the Millers continued to create chances which they either wasted or saw Tommy Lee in the Chesterfield goal, who was in superb form by the way, deal with. Undoubtedly the closest efforts had fallen to Chesterfield but the Millers probably had more possession and pressure.

Half Time Chesterfield 1 Millers 0

The second half started with pressure again from Rotherham. After five minutes a ball in to Odejayi`s feet saw the big striker roll Sam Hird before powerfully running on and finishing past Lee to level the score. Pringles effort was blocked by Neal Trottman and Lee kept out Ainsworth to further frustrate the Millers. If the best chances went Chesterfield`s way in the first half then I think the tables had turned after the break. An enthralling local derby that contained everything and left honours even
