Rotherham United gave themselves a massive chance of climbing out of League One by taking their unbeaten run to fourteen while subjecting Brentford to their first defeat in five months at the New York Stadium this evening.

The game started on an even keel though it was the visitors who had the first sight of goal when Adam Collin put a half shot from Clayton Donaldson out for a corner while David Button easily collected a cross from Nicky Adams at the other end. Things changed in the game on fourteen minutes when a cross from Adams fell to James Tavernier and the Newcastle loanee got the better of Alan Judge whose trailing leg tripped the defender in the area. With all eyes on referee Geoff Eltringham he looked in the air, had a think, decided to look at his linesman who had immediately given the penalty and pointed to the spot where Kieran Agard placed the ball and put it into the bottom corner to give the hosts the lead. Minutes later Ben Pringle saw a shot held by Button and Alex Revell got above Alan McCormack only to see his header skim over the crossbar. Just after the half-hour mark the Millers won a free-kick on the edge of the area which Tavernier took and was unlucky to see it career into the post and away to safety before Adams got himself into a good position but his cross-come-shot didn`t trouble Button. At the other end Collin had to be alert when Marcello Trotta broke free of his marker but the Italians weak shot didn`t really bother the Millers shot-stopper. With half-time approaching the Millers pulled off a move that is probably the best seen at New York all season when a superb pass from Pringle found Adams who in turn found Agard who looked up once and put the ball past Button and into the roof of the net to make it two-nil going into the break.

The Millers started well in the second half and a cross from Nicky Adams to the head of Alex Revell saw the striker head the ball to Kieran Agard but he was immediately crowded out by a number of defenders and couldn`t get a shot away. A few minutes later the visitors 'keeper was lucky to stay on the pitch when Agard ran onto a long ball upfield only to be confronted with David Button`s highly raised boot - I`m sure if that had been an incident in the middle of the park the player raising the boot would have been off. Both Adams and Agard had chances to make it three with Adams` shot going inches over the cross bar with Button beaten. With twenty minutes to go the Bees started to get into the game and a cross from Alan Judge found Jonathan Douglas but the midfielder headed straight at Collin who spilled it but skipper Craig Morgan, who had another good game, was there to get the ball away. Adam Forshaw had two chances to score his first shot went over the bar and his second from a free-kick didn`t get over the Millers wall before Harlee Dean saw a shot blocked. Lee Frecklington had a couple of chances to put the Millers further into the lead but his shots from distance were either blocked or went wide while Clayton Donaldson managed to break free of his marker but his effort went wide of the mark. Towards the end of the match Mr Eltringham showed a yellow card to each side - Jonathan Douglas for a rash challenge on Kieran Agard and Lee Frecklington was adjudged to have tripped Alan McCormack to join Kari Arnason who saw yellow earlier in the half for kicking the ball away - before Adams found himself one-on-one with Bees 'keeper Button but the Millers striker put the ball wide. The Millers made two late substitutions, Rob Milsom on for Pringle and Haris Vuckic on for Agard and with Vuckic`s first touch of the ball he made it three-nil after he`d skipped past a couple of Bees defenders and worked himself into space to fire the ball low into the back of the net leaving Button looking on. Adam Collin made sure he kept a clean sheet when he prevented Donaldson from getting to a Will Grigg cross at the end of the game.

Another three goals and another clean sheet - you really can`t ask more than that on a Tuesday night at home can you? And it was another great team effort that produced the win this evening.

Star Player

I thought Joe Skarz had an excellent game, especially the first forty-five minutes and, again, Craig Morgan did well as did Kari Arnason. Revell ran his socks off again with Tavernier getting himself into the action more as the game went on. But my Man of the Match has to be the hard working two-goal hero Kieran Agard
