Rotherham United had an impressive win this afternoon at Roundwood as the Millers took on Parkgate in this pre-season friendly.
The Millers were out of the block very quickly and when a ball down the right found Alex Revell he put the ball beyond David Derwent in the Steersmen`s goal and made it one-nil to the visitors. Six minutes later the Millers were two up after a header down from Mat Derbyshire found Revell and he slotted the ball into the back of the net. On fourteen minutes a Parkgate hand stopped a free-kick from Paul Green going towards goal and from the resulting penalty Derbyshire makes it three-nil. Revell had a chance to get his hat-trick but put the ball over the bar while a Frecklington shot was scrambled away followed by Derbyshire heading wide a few minutes later. With ten minutes of the half to go a good cross from Green looked for the head of Derbyshire but a Parkgate head got in the way although it still ended up in the back of the net for the Millers fourth goal. Two minutes later another good cross from Green found Revell but he saw his header go wide. Just before the end of the half Ryan Hall had a shot from some distance out but it was well held by the Parkgate 'keeper.
The second half started a little quieter with the Millers first shot coming on fifty-three minutes from Paul Green but he dragged his shot wide of goal with Ryan Hall also having a shot go high over the bar. On the seventieth minute the Millers got a corner which Kari Arnason duly powered into the net with his head and five minutes later it was six-nil. Alex Revell saw a shot blocked but the ball came back out to him and he fired a low shot into the net for his hat-trick. Three minutes later it was seven-nil after a cross from Green found Joe Skarz who passed to Ryan Hall who controls the ball and shoots into the net. In the final five minutes a good shot from Lee Frecklington was equally well tipped wide by Derwent but from the resulting corner Richard Wood makes it eight-nil with a header. Skarz gets a good ball into the area which is deflected to Jerry Yates, on for Derbyshire at half-time, but he sees his header skim over the top of the bar. In the final minute young Peter Denton replaced Millers` 'keeper Adam Collin and the next time he touched the ball was to pick it out of the back of the net after Scott Whittington made it eight-one. Yates makes amend for heading just over a couple of minutes earlier when he makes it nine-one in time added on.
