Robins v Millers

A game that neither team could really afford to lose was won by the better side today at Whaddon Road.

A goal in the 64th minute by defender Brian Wilson and a second in time added on by David Bird saw Town overcome Rotherham.

Both sides struggled in the first half, although the Millers Delroy Facey should have opened the scoring after just six minutes when he headed the ball out from just six yards to give the home side a reprieve. He came closer a few minutes later when a powerful shot just flew wide of the goal.

The Millers had to make an early substitution when skipper Colin Murdock was injured and had to be replaced by Scott Wiseman.

The Robins felt they should have had a penalty when John Melligan went down under a Gregor Robertson challenge, but referee Mr McDermid waved the appeal away.

The second half was a much more open affair with Will Hoskins and Martin Woods seeing shots go wide and saved before Wilson`s stunning goal which left Neil Cutler with no chance.

Both teams made substitutions, David Bird came on for the Robins to replace Melligan and the Millers made a double swap with Marc Newsham and David Hibbert replacing Justin Cochrane and Richie Partridge.

The Millers switched to three up front and started to put pressure on Town`s defence. Shane Higgs brought off a fine save from Woods and Hoskins saw a shot of his fall kindly to the home goalkeeper.

With almost the last kick of the game, substitute Bird got a wicked deflection off Steven Gillespie to see the ball go past Cutler into the back of the net which saw the Robins get their second successive home win and secure the three points.
