Millers v Tranmere

Two first half goals saw a New Years Day defeat for Rotherham United at Prenton Park today, leaving them without a win since the first week in December.

Shane Sherriff and Gareth Taylor put the home side in front before ex Rover Delroy Facey got a consolation goal in the last ten minutes of the game for the Millers.

Within the first four minutes Sherriff saw a shot deflect past Neil Cutler, in the Rotherham goal, and hit the foot of the post before being cleared. Richie Partridge, at the other end, put the ball through Chris McCready`s legs but his shot went just wide of Tranmere`s far post.

In the 27th minute, Chris Shuker had the ball in the back of the Millers net only for referee Mr Moss to rule it out for off side. But just a minute later the Millers could not defend a corner and Sherriff drilled the ball past Cutler to put the home team 1-0 up.

Chris Greenacre then saw a header go just over the bar before Taylor got on the end of a cross from Paul McLaren and headed the ball into the corner to double the lead.

Early in the second half, Greenacre came close to getting Rovers third but saw his shot blocked on the line. The Millers brought on Lee Williamson for Dave Hibbert and started to come back into the game. Only an excellent save from 19 year old Joe Hart, signed this morning on loan from Manchester City, stopped Will Hoskins getting his 14th goal of the season.

Facey`s goal came with eight minutes to go when he hooked a cross and the ball dipped over the back- pedalling 'keeper who could only help the ball into the back of the net. The Millers pushed everyone forward and nearly grabbed a point in the dying minutes when Hart pulled off a good save with the ball coming off the body of Woods and heading towards the goal.

The Millers now see themselves back in the relegation zone.

another first half showing, why does it take a rollocking at half time for the players to perform?

Lost it by half-time. Says it all, when the only 2 real efforts on goal in the first half came from a very young full back.

looks ur going through a bit of a tough patch. In normal circumstances you'd be fine but with the point deductions the points need to start coming in soon.
