A blustery Millmoor saw Caleb Folan get his 13th goal of the season as Chesterfield picked up a 1-0 win in South Yorkshire this afternoon.
Both sides, battling the wind, started well with Chesterfield going close in the opening minutes with Folan bringing a good save from Neil Cutler in the Millers goal. While at the other end Rotherham United`s loanee striker, Ian Henderson, saw his fierce drive from twenty yards out go just over the bar. Gaining in confidence the Spireites started to push forward and Peter Holmes, on loan from Luton, easily got passed two of the Millers defenders to see Cutler pull off another fine save. At the other end Henderson had the ball in the back of the net from a free-kick only to find that Delroy Facey was in an offside position and the goal was ruled out.
Then, on thirty three minutes Folan got the only goal of the game. Ex-Miller, Paul Shaw latched onto a ball from a throw in and found Folan in the crowded penalty area who fired in the ball from 12 yards out.
The second half started with the Millers replacing Eugen Bopp with Gregor Robertson, but it was Chesterfield who came out looking as though they would double the lead with Aaron Downes seeing his shot scream past the post.
The second half was a poor affair with only Marc Newsham, on as a substitute for Richie Partridge, and Stephen Brogan coming close for the Millers and Shaw and Holmes for the visitors. The only yellow card of the game was given to Stephen Brogan for dissent after he felt he had been impeded and complained to referee Dermot Gallagher.
A deserved win for the Spireites sees the Millers still languishing in the relegation zone with twenty four points from twenty seven games.
