Doncaster Rovers 3 - Rotherham United 2

Keepmoat Stadium

27 January 2007 3.00pm

Attendance: 12 126

Rovers v Millers

A spectacular goal from Martin Woods couldn`t stop Rotherham United from losing on their first trip to The Keepmoat Stadium.

The Millers started the game well although it was Rovers who had the first shot at goal with Paul Heffernan`s shot blocked by a group of Millers defenders. At the other end a Martin Woods cross found Delroy Facey who could only force a corner. But it was the visitors who were looking the better team and Richie Partridge put them ahead after ten minutes with a superb volley from 25 yards out.

Unfortunately, once again, the Millers could not hold onto a lead and within two minutes Heffernan headed in the first of his two goals of the afternoon to equalise for the home side. Both teams had more chances before half time with Partridge and new signing Chris O`Grady going close for the visitors and Jason Price twice going close for Rovers, the second bringing off a good save from Neil Cutler in the Rotherham goal.

The second half was only minutes old when Graeme Lee headed Doncaster into the lead from a Brian Stocks corner to quieten the large following of Millers fans and Heffernan fired home his second on the hour mark.

The Millers got back into the game and Facey, spotting goalkeeper, Ben Smith, off his line, lofted a shot into the air from 30 yards out only to see Smith back peddling and tip it over the bar. Then on the 71st minute, Woods scored his spectacular left-footed thunderbolt of a goal into the top corner of the net to give the Millers a lifeline but it took some fine saves from Cutler towards the end of the match to prevent the home team from adding to their tally.

This leaves the Millers second bottom in the League and with only twenty four points to take to their next game away at Brighton and Hove Albion.
