Rotherham United became the first team to score against their Premier League opponents Huddersfield Town this season but a disputed penalty will see Town go into the draw for the next round in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

Having made eighteen changes between them it was the Millers who started the brighter getting a corner in the opening minute which came out to Ben Purrington then Anthony Forde whose good ball in found Semi Ajayi's head and the tall defender got the visiting fans on their feet by putting the ball in the back of the net in under two minutes. And it could have been two a couple of minutes later when some nice play between Jamie Proctor and David Ball found Forde who saw his cross towards goal hacked away by a Town defender. As the hosts got into the game Richard Wood was superb throwing his body in the way of a shot from Collin Quaner followed by a shot from Michael Hefele that went straight into the waiting arms of Millers' 'keeper Richard O'Donnell. Laurent Depoitre and Hefele had half attempts at goal that came to nothing. Jamie Proctor was causing problems and when he got a ball over the top from Wood only a foul by Dean Whitehead stopped him with Jon Taylor's quick free-kick nearly catching the Terriers out but David Ball was caught off-side. At the other end Ajayi did well to clear from Depoitre while a free-kick found Hefele who planted the ball straight into the arms of O'Donnell. Ajayi then went from hero to villain when a backpass only found Depoitre and it came to skipper for the night Wood to save the day. And minutes later Jon Taylor had to be alert to get back into his own box and got in the way of a shot from Jordan Williams before Proctor turned defender getting two headers away before Kasey Palmer curled a shot over the crossbar. At the other end Proctor was fouled by Christopher Schindler with the resulting free-kick being taken by Forde who found Proctor but the flag went up again for off-side. Ben Purrington did well to put the ball out for a corner in the last minute of the game with the Schindler rising highest from the set-piece putting the ball inches wide.

The second half began with both sides making a substitution. Kieffer Moore came on for Jamie Proctor for the Millers with Huddersfield fetching on Philip Billing for Christopher Schindler. And it was the hosts who came out the better with only a good stop from Semi Ajayi stopping Kasey Palmer in his tracks. And it was Ajayi again who got the block in when Collin Quaner looked like he would score a minute later. On the fifty-first minute referee Peter Bankes saw a Rotherham player pull the shirt of Laurent Depoitre who went down and was given a penalty which Billing took and made it one-one. Two minutes later Huddersfield went in front when a Palmer cross found Joe Lolley in acres of space who shot low and saw the ball go into the net. Just after the hour mark the Millers fans were on their feet thinking Moore had scored but a brilliant save on the floor from Joel Coleman kept the hosts in front. Jonson Clarke-Harris came off the subs bench for the Millers replacing David Ball and his first action of the game saw him win a free-kick which came to nothing but was followed by some good work from Ben Purrington who found Clarke-Harris but he was too hasty as skied the ball over the crossbar. Clarke-Harris had another chance when he was presented the ball in midfield but Danny Williams' good tackle stopped him getting a shot away but the Millers striker went down with a shoulder injury. Town replaced Kasey Palmer with Elias Kerchunga. Rotherham thought they should have had a penalty with thirteen minutes to go when Moore appeared to be held by Hefele but referee Bankes gave Huddersfield a free-kick. Alex Bray was the final throw of the dice for the Millers with Dominic Ball making way for him while Joe Lolley was taken off for the hosts being replaced by Tom Ince. On eighty-five minutes a superb free-kick from Anthony Forde found the head of Will Vaulks and everyone in the stadium thought he'd equalised except Mr Bankes who gave Town, yet again, a free-kick. After a cross from Jon Taylor the ball found Clarke-Harris but Huddersfield defended well and got the ball away. Ben Purrington and Michael Hefele found their way into the referee's book for what no one seems to know. The Millers should have equalised at the death when Moore had a great shot well saved by Coleman with the rebound falling to Clarke-Harris who had time to walk the ball into the net but sliced his kick and saw the ball go wide. And the Millers striker had another chance when Moore headed the ball across goal but Clarke-Harris couldn't get his foot to it.

Rotherham United's had chances this evening to score more goals while, yet again, Huddersfield's first goal came from a defensive error. But one things for sure the players who put on a Millers shirt this evening will give Paul Warne a selection headache ahead of Saturday's league game with Charlton.

Star Player

Have to mention skipper for the evening Richard Wood while Ben Purrington did OK too. Kieffer Moore had a good game coming off the bench but my Man of the Match goes to JAMIE PROCTOR
