Stalemate at the Withdean

Even getting a point at the Withdean Stadium and ending a run of four straight defeats couldn`t stop Rotherham United going bottom of League 1 this afternoon.

The Seagulls have only scored one goal in their last seven games and it was their second consecutive stalemate at home.

The game was pretty uninspiring and neither teams created many chances on the bumpy pitch at the Withdean. Brighton had more of the first half play with Dean Cox curling a shot just past the post and Jake Robinson was put clean through by debutant Nick Ward but Millers goalkeeper, Neil Cutler, came out and smothered the shot. Cutler again saved from Dean Hammond as half-time approached.

But it was the Millers who came more into the game in the second half and created most of the chances with the Millers keeper being mostly untroubled. A defensive mix up almost let in Eugen Bopp but Dutchman Michel Kuipers managed to dispossess him.

The visitors came close to getting all three points in the last minute of the game when, with Kuipers beaten, Bopp saw a twenty-five yard shot rattle the cross bar and go to safety, much to the disappointment of the travelling Millers fans.
